YEREVAN. – The criminal case of the members of an armed group in Armenia, and which is being examined for four years, shall be re-examined.

Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction Judge Armen Bektashyan, who is presiding over this case, has been appointed to the Criminal Court of Appeal.

As a result, this case shall be assigned to another judge, who will have to re-examine it.

Sirush Aghvanyan, a defense attorney in this case, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the case has not yet been assigned to a new judge.

Of the 19 members of this armed group, only their alleged leader, Artur Vardanyan, is still in custody.

On November 25, 2015, the National Security Service of Armenia issued a statement that an armed group had been neutralized in capital city Yerevan.

According to the indictment, this armed group planned to forcibly seize power in the country.
