YEREVAN. – Referring to his workload, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday did not receive the demonstrators who are protesting against the operation of the Amulsar gold mine of Armenia.

“We have been told that the Prime Minister is very busy today and can’t receive us,” the protesters said. “But he has promised to hold a meeting [with us] soon.

“We will allow the Prime Minister to finish his work today, but we are expecting a meeting in the coming days. The matter is not subject to delay.”

As reported earlier, a protest is staged outside the government building, and against the operation of the Amulsar gold mine.

Yura Ivanyan, head of the investigative team on the case of deliberate concealment of data on the exploitation of this mine, had told a news conference Wednesday about the results of the respective audit report.

In his words, the results of this report on the assessment of the possible impact of the operation of the Amulsar mine indicate that there are no paths to transfer—from the mine to the thermal hot springs of Jermuk—the groundwater flow and the contamination.

Also, the audit report had found no data on intentional concealment of information regarding environmental damage during the operation of this mine.

The protesters, however, are publicizing excerpts from documents that attest to otherwise.
