President of France Emmanuel Macron admits that his efforts to bring Iran and the United States closer are quite “fragile,” but he sees a “possible way” to bring the parties closer after decades of conflict, AP reports.
Commenting on the invitation of the Iranian Foreign Minister to the G7 summit, Macron said that his risky diplomatic maneuver helped create to create possible conditions for a useful meeting. He believes that France should play a balancing force.
The day before, Macron expressed hope for a meeting of the US and Iranian presidents in the coming weeks.
Trump believes this was a “really good chance,” but Rouhani said the US president should first lift the sanctions.
