Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on Thursday familiarized the National Assembly deputies with the results of the conference of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions of Armenia.

Speaking in parliament, the minister noted that this annual meeting is being held in a new format this time, and it is the first one since last year’s velvet revolution in the country.

As per Mnatsakanyan, this conference provides an opportunity to clarify the objectives, priorities, and principles of Armenia’s foreign policy and the most effective ways to implement it. In this context, the Minister specifically pointed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s address-message.

The minister informed that members of the Armenian government also participated in this conference and its discussions, and this considerably contributed to the clarification of priorities.

“This is an important event for us from the viewpoint of strengthening the coordination of agencies,” the Foreign Minister said. He added that the acknowledgment of civilizational, historical and cultural values provides an exceptional opportunity to build relations with a strong foundation.

The conference is entitled “Values in Practice, Action: Armenia’s Diplomacy in a Changing World.” Accordingly, the Minister singled out three sets of values: civilizational and historical heritage, modern democracy, and human rights, which the Armenian people have upheld during the velvet revolution and subsequent elections.

Also, Mnatsakanyan noted the three basic principles of Armenia’s foreign policy: sovereignty, “Armenianness” as the center of foreign policy, and cooperation.

“In Armenia’s case, there are no contradictions between values and interests,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan attached special importance to parliamentary diplomacy, and cooperation with all parliamentary organizations.
