YEREVAN. – The license to operate the dry storage of the used nuclear fuel of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will be extended for 30 years. Ashot Martirosyan, Chairman of the Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ANRA), said this at a press conference on Friday.

In his words, the respective period of time which ANRA had set in 2000 concludes in 2020.

“Used nuclear fuel can be stored in such storages for 300 years, but the [respective] license is issued for 50 to 70 years,” Martirosyan explained. “Taking into account the importance of conducting research periodically, the license has been issued for 20 years.”
