STEPANAKERT. – An  award ceremony devoted to the 28th anniversary of the proclamation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) took place Saturday at the residence of the President of the Republic of Artsakh.

President Bako Sahakyan handed in high state awards to a group of Artsakh Defense Army servicemen, Karabakh War veterans, statesmen and public figures, philanthropists, representatives of economic, healthcare, education, and cultural domains, Central Information Department of the Office of the Republic of Artsakh President informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Also, legendary commanders Leonid Azgaldyan and Vladimir Balayan were posthumously awarded with the highest rank of the “Hero of Artsakh,” for their exceptional service rendered to the Artsakh Republic and their bravery and courage shown in the cause of mounting defense.

“For 28 years we have been building a free, sovereign, and democratic state together with our sisters and brothers from Mother Armenia and the Diaspora,” President Sahakyan noted in his remarks at the event. “During these years our people have succeeded in building an efficient army, all the democratic institutes, in ensuring dynamic growth of the economy.”

Also, he expressed confidence that Armenian people will further on resolve—hand in hand—all the issues they faced.

“I am confident because I believe in our people’s power and determination,” he stressed. “I know that nothing can lead them astray.”
