The series of concerts dedicated to the 80th anniversary of composer Tigran Mansurian kicked off with an event held at Renaissance Square in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on Sunday.

The concert series is entitled “Maestro Mansurian 80” and is being held at the initiative of Yerevan Municipality, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.

In his speech, Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan stated that this day was long-anticipated. “Frankly, we have been waiting for this day for a long time. Recently, I had the opportunity to say that I am lucky to be a contemporary of the great musician. When the maestro and I decided to organize a series of concerts dedicated to his 80th anniversary back in January, we set a criterion to make sure the scale and gravity of the concerts is equal to the scale and gravity of his works,” the mayor said.

In his turn, the maestro expressed gratitude for the event. “This was a beautiful event. I am more than grateful to Yerevan Municipality, the mayor and all government officials who wished that this event was held here, in the capital of Artsakh. The events will continue in Yerevan.”
