On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Spitak earthquake in 1988, Armenian PM organized on February 9, 2018, an event called Natural Disaster Response Day and ordered the creation of an interagency commuter in this regard, said Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations Armen Harutyunyan at a meeting of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Issues during the discussion of the bill on amendments to the law on Public Holidays and Memorable Days.

He noted that as a result, an interdepartmental commission was created under the chairmanship of the Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia, which presented to the Prime Minister’s office a draft decision on approval of an action plan aimed at conducting activities on the Day of Disaster Management.

“The planned events are aimed at commemorating the victims of the Spitak earthquake, expressing gratitude to everyone who extended a hand in those days, and outlining those key actions that will make Armenia stronger and more prepared for possible natural and man-made disasters,” Harutyunyan noted .

The deputy from the Prosperous Armenia party Gevorg Petrosyan, in his turn, noted that such events in Armenia should be held every day, and not once a year.

However, the bill received a positive opinion from the Permanent Parliamentary Committee.
