Armenia has a pretty good trade balance with Iran, said Armenian ambassador to Iran Artashes Tumanyan on Tuesday.

At the same time, he noted that the turnover of trade with Iran is relatively low, but in the current conditions, it can not be more.

“At the official level in Iran, it is openly announced that they should export as much as possible and purchase as little as possible, attract as much capital as possible and export as little as possible,” he said.

At the same time, he noted that Armenia manages to export goods in Iran in rather large volumes.

“So, in 2018, according to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, exports to Iran amounted to $ 94 million, imports from Iran - a little less than $ 270 million,” Tumanyan noted. In addition, according to the ambassador, new prospects appeared for Armenian exports thanks to the agreement of the Eurasian Union with Iran, adding that the whole agreement provides for lowering tariffs and facilitating customs procedures for 862 goods.

According to him, Iran will reduce tariffs for the Eurasian Economic Union on mineral water, soft drinks, chocolate, and other sweets and textile products will also receive preferences.

“Iran has not reduced tariffs on the jewelry but removed non-tariff restrictions. Over 150 grams of jewelry cannot be transported to Iran through customs. For the Eurasian Economic Union countries this restriction will be lifted,” the ambassador noted.
