YEREVAN. – Neither in the CSTO Charter nor in the agreements previously signed, sadly, there is a provision prohibiting the sale of weapons to third countries that are in conflict with other member countries of the Organization.

Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan on Thursday stated the aforesaid at the meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, during the debates on the ratification of Protocol 2 on amendments to the Collective Security Treaty.

He noted this when responding to the queries by the MPs who criticized the position of some Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member countries that sell weapons to Azerbaijan.

In Kocharyan’s words, everyone understands perfectly well that this is not a partnership approach, but from the viewpoint of international law, these actions are quite legitimate and permissible.

And asked whether Armenia can influence the decisions of the other CSTO members within the framework of this Organization if they do not act in the interests of Yerevan and pose a threat, the deputy FM responded that the simplest way is to express one’s own position and concern.

“The simplest method is to simply say ‘no,’ ”Kocharyan stressed; “this is quite enough.”
