The interstate relations of Armenia and Russia are based on a solid foundation, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan told reporters on Friday commenting on the issue of seeking political asylum of figures from Armenia to the Russian Federation and vice versa.

“The interstate relations of Armenia and Russia are based on a solid foundation. There is no disagreement. There are some lawsuits and legal processes. But at the interstate level, we are able to maintain an agenda of priorities arising from allied relations. There is no and cannot be any connection between these issues,” the FM noted.

Asked to comment on a variety of rumors regarding the details of the expected visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, such as a meeting with the Armenian second President Robert Kocharyan, the Minister noted that Armenia was preparing to host the Eurasian Economic Union summit, but did not respond to questions in the subjunctive mood.

“We are preparing for the summit and are confident that it will be effective, and relations with partners will benefit,” the minister noted.

He also confirmed the participation of senior representatives of Iran and Singapore in the October 1 summit in Yerevan.
