The United States wants to see a strong and prosperous Armenia. George Kent, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the European and Eurasian Bureau at the US Department of State, told this to the Voice of America Armenian Service.

He said they want to see Armenia as a successful, prosperous, democratic, and secure country.

Ever since Armenia’s independence in 1991, the US has provided more than $2 billion in assistance to the country.

And since last year’s “velvet revolution” in Armenia, the US has continued to help the country, including implementing major democratic reforms.

In Kent’s words, the peaceful transition of power in Spring 2018 has opened new doors of development before Armenia, and the US is keen to assist the country in this endeavor.

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State added that one year after the “velvet revolution,” Armenia has a great chance of becoming a successful country, the US wishes to see Armenia as an established and successful country, and this is in the US interests.
