An Egyptian court sentenced 11 people to life imprisonment, including the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed Badi, AP reported.

The sentence was handed down after retrial of charges of mass prison escapes in the midst of a 2011 popular uprising.

The re-trial was related to a case involving the escape of 20,000 prisoners from Egyptian prisons in January 2011. The verdict is not subject to appeal.

The Cairo Criminal Court also sentenced eight others to 15 years in prison on the same charges.

This is the last of several Badi's life sentences. He was also sentenced to death in other cases after his arrest in 2013.
