A total of 75 thousand people visited the exclusion zone of the nuclear power plant in 2019.

This year a new record of the exclusion zone has already been set - 74.67 thousand tourists for eight months of 2019, while 14.4 thousand people visited the zone in August. Since the beginning of the year, this figure has grown five times: in January-February, the Chernobyl zone was visited by an average of three thousand tourists a month, but from March the tourist flow began to grow, the press service of the State Agency for Management of the Exclusion Zone said.

For tourists in the exclusion zone, 21 routes were approved for travel, including 13 land, five water, and three air routes. Tourists from the UK, Germany, Poland, and the USA visit Chernobyl.

The number of excursion bookings has grown by more than 40% since the HBO TV series Chernobyl. In June, the tape became the highest-rated series in history, taking first place in the ranking of the IMDb aggregator.

Ukraine opened Chernobyl to tourists in 2011. Last year, 72 thousand foreign tourists visited the exclusion zone, in 2017 - 50 thousand.
