Leader of National Concord political party Aram Harutyunyan is charged with causing bodily injury. This is what Harutyunyan told journalists today. He was one of the supporters of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and hit a woman during a protest that was taking place in the yard of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction in Shengavit District.

“Two to three women constantly said “you are a Turk”. At first, I didn’t react, but then they repeated it. Later, one of the women said I am a Turk and that my children should die, and I hit her, and I would hit her again, if she said it. Every instigator has to receive an adequate response, and it doesn’t matter if the person is a man or woman.”

Harutyunyan insisted that the woman had nothing to do with the protest that was taking place and was only there to instigate.

“That woman had come to say a few words about the decision that the Constitutional Court adopted on September 4. My slap was a slap to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Nikol Pashinyan and all instigators. The woman had been brought here. She didn’t even know the Constitution. Don’t pour salt on the wound.”

Lawyer Vahe Yepikyan added by saying that even though Aram Harutyunyan was apprehended under the suspicion of a beating, he was interviewed for causing bodily injury.

The examination of the case of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and other ex-officials, who are accused of overthrowing constitutional order in the case of the events of March 1, 2008, was held today and presided by Judge Anna Danibekyan at the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction in the Shengavit District. Kocharyan’s attorneys filed a motion with the court to abolish the detention preventive measure for Robert Kocharyan on the basis of the decision of the Constitutional Court. The judge left for the consultation room, and the decision will be announced on September 17.
