YEREVAN. – Now former US National Security Advisor John Bolton was one of the figures with the most aggressive and harshest position in President Donald Trump’s administration. Political scientist Suren Sargsyan noted this at a press conference on Friday, and reflecting on Trump’s decision to dismiss Bolton.

In his words, furthermore, Bolton had his own political line and political perceptions, including in foreign policy, and they often did not coincide with the positions of the US president.

“By and large, the resignation was expected,” the political scientist said. “It’s written in American press that Trump has taken this step right now because he wishes to start talks with the president of Iran, on the margins of the UN General Assembly. By and large, Bolton was the person whose presence in that post was hampering those negotiations.”

Sargsyan said he does not think that there would be a change in US foreign policy with the removal of Bolton, but its tough stance would be relaxed, at least on the Iran issue.

“Probably, the [US] stance towards Russia will also be relaxed,” he added. “Before the [forthcoming US presidential] elections, Trump wants to present himself as a good negotiator.”
