YEREVAN. – The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, on Tuesday received an expert group from the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. The group has arrived in the country to provide an expert opinion on the package of judicial amendments.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the fight against corruption in the judiciary, as well as the judicial and legal reforms in Armenia, the Office of the Human Rights Defender informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In particular, Tatoyan told the Venice Commission experts that judicial reforms should be implemented based on the precept of the rule of law.

The members of this Venice Commission expert group, for their part, lauded the Ombudsman’s awareness and involvement in improving the legal system of Armenia.
