President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian and Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian today hosted the descendants (grandchildren and great-grandchildren) of great Armenian poet Hovhannes Tumanyan at the presidential residence.
President Sarkissian greeted the guests and stated that it is an honor to host the descendants of the great poet who have gathered in Armenia at the initiative of Tumanyan’s granddaughter, Irma Safrazbekyan.
“Great people are usually remembered and honored during events dedicated to their anniversaries, but we Armenians always remember and honor Tumanyan and his works. Tumanyan is a legend for us Armenians, and that legend becomes purer and purer for us over time,” the President noted.
During the meeting, the President, his wife and the guests exchanged views on the preservation and dissemination of Tumanyan’s heritage and shared ideas about the creation of the Tumanyan Institute and the preservation of the nature and environment in Dsegh where Tumanyan was born. The guests also presented the books published on the occasion of Tumanyan’s 150th anniversary to the President as gifts.
