YEREVAN. – The delegation, led by Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, on Tuesday visited the Riga Castle, where they were received by President Egils Levits of Latvia.

Mnatsakanyan and Levits noted that Armenian-Latvian relations are based on mutual respect and are relations between peoples with a particularly strong sense of freedom and independence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The Armenian FM expressed the hope that his visit to Latvia will contribute to the further intensification and deepening of the political discourse between the two countries.

Also, the president of Latvia and the FM of Armenia stressed the important role of the Armenian community in bringing the two countries and peoples closer together.

Furthermore, Mnatsakanyan drew Levits’ attention to the ongoing reforms in Armenia.

In the context of Armenia’s partnership with the European Union (EU) and its member countries, the EU Eastern Partnership was mutually valued as an effective platform with great potential, and which is formed based on shared values and goals set out.

The Latvian president and the Armenian FM exchanged views also on international and regional developments and their positions on them.

And touching upon the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan presented Armenia’s respective fundamental position and approaches. Also, President Egils Levits and FM Mnatsakanyan stressed that there can be no alternative to a pacific resolution to this conflict.
