YEREVAN. – The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan, is unaware of the reasons for the resignation of Police Chief Valeriy Osipyan.

Tonoyan, speaking to reporters at the National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday, dismissed the reports that there had been any discussions at the Security Council over the resignation of the chief of police.

The defense minister added that there is no disagreement between him and the Prime Minister.

“There can be no disagreements,” Tonoyan stressed. “Very synchronized work is being done, and as a member of the government.”

And asked whether the recent resignations by Armenia’s law enforcement officials—Police chief Valeriy Osipyan and National Security Service director Artur Vanetsyan—pose a threat to national security, Davit Tonoyan said: “I don’t think so; the system is operating.”

The defense minister is in the NA to attend a closed meeting with the majority My Step faction in parliament.
