The National Security Service of Armenia has identified a case of illegal use of electricity during cryptocurrency mining, NSS’ press service reported.

According to the preliminary data acquired, the IT company, not being a subscriber consuming electricity in Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC illegally used electricity, mining cryptocurrencies using equipment issuing cryptocurrency located on the territory of one of the hydroelectric power stations. As a result of this activity, over 1.7 million kWh of electricity for AMD 73 million were consumed over a year and a half.

Materials on this fact are being prepared, the amount of damage caused to the state and hydroelectric power station is being specified. NSS officers establish the circle of persons involved in criminal activity.
