The Turkish Taraf newspaper published WikiLeaks cables related to alleged ties between U.S. and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), writes Turkish Hurriyet Daily News and Economic Review.

“Taraf recalled a photograph published in the daily Milliyet by journalist Can Dundar on Jan. 23, 2003, which allegedly featured PKK members and “U.S. officials” in a conference. Both Washington and then-U.S. Ambassador to Ankara W. Robert Pearson denied the allegations,” the newspaper writes.

Secret cable sent by then-U.S. Ambassador Richard Barkley also says about relations between U.S. and PKK. In one of the telegrams Barkley thanked Christopher for the “directive text of the ministry on the official contacts of the U.S. government with PKK.”

Another document says then-Secretary of State Warren M. Christopher sent a letter to the embassies in Ankara and Yerevan in 1993 noting Washington is worried about allegation of Armenians aiding the PKK and if there was evidence they would apply great pressure on but this matter would not be mentioned to Turks before being discussed with the Armenians.
