During a meeting with Prime Minister of Hungary Victor Orban in Budapest, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his threat to “open the gates” to Europe for millions of refugees in case there is no additional support from the international community, reports AFP.

Erdogan has called on EU member states to provide additional financial assistance for his plan to create a “buffer zone” on the border with Syria.

“We will continue to receive our guests, but for a certain period, regardless of whether we receive support or not,” Erdogan said during a joint press conference with Orban.

Orban declared that Hungary was ready to help Turkey. “You won’t be able to stop the migrants heading towards Europe without Turkey. We need to do everything we can to avoid the massive migration of people coming to the southern border of Hungary, and for that we need Turkey’s help,” he added.
