The United States is concerned by continued attacks against protesters and to stop violence.

“The United States joins the UN Assistance Mission to Iraq in calling on the Iraqi government to halt the violence against protesters and fulfil President Salih's promise to pass electoral reform and hold early elections,” the statement, posted by the U.S. embassy in Baghdad on Monday,” the U.S. embassy in Baghdad said in a statement.

Protest actions against unemployment and corruption continue since early October. The demonstrators are demanding government’s resignation as well as early parliamentary elections.

According to parliament’s committee on human rights, 319 people were killed and over 15,000 were injured during the protests.
