President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today hosted the delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who is in Armenia on an official visit.

Greeting the guest as a high-ranking official of an allied country and as an old friend, President Sarkissian stated that the relations between Russia and Armenia are growing dynamically and emphasized that Sergey Lavrov has made great contributions to the strengthening of the Russian-Armenian friendship as foreign minister as well.

The head of state transmitted, through the Russian foreign minister, his warm greetings to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the willingness to see him in Armenia again. The Russian foreign minister expressed gratitude for the cordial reception and, in his turn, transmitted to President Sarkissian the best wishes of President Vladimir Putin.

Talking about the prospects for cooperation, President Sarkissian presented several events that Armenia will be hosting next year, including the Armenian Summit of Minds and the 6th STARMUS international festival and attached importance to the partnership in the context of those events. The head of state particularly touched upon the ATOM presidential initiative that is targeted at the development of science and the latest technologies in Armenia and said Armenia anticipated active cooperation with Russian companies and educational institutions through the initiative.

The Russian foreign minister welcomed all the initiatives that are aimed at expanding the bilateral contacts and strengthening the relations between the two countries.
