After the velvet revolution in Armenia, Armenian-American relations have grown to a strategic level, which is reflected in closer cooperation not only between the executive, and also the legislative authorities of the two countries. Lilit Makunts, head of the Armenian parliamentary delegation visiting the US, told this to Voice of America in Washington.

Prior to meeting with Congressman Frank Pallone, the head of Armenia’s parliamentary majority noted that Armenian parliamentarians plan to intensify relations with the American side in a number of domains.

The first official meeting of the delegation was at the US Congress with Congressman Pallone, Co-Chair of the US Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, during which the parliamentarians expressed special gratitude to the Congressman for his work on the adoption of House Resolution 296 recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

According to Pallone, the free and transparent parliamentary elections and democratic reforms following the velvet revolution in Armenia have significantly raised the country's rating in the US, opening up new prospects for bilateral cooperation.

He added that during this visit by the Armenian MPs, they will discuss with their Armenian counterparts the prospects of strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.
