YEREVAN. – I attend all Security Council meetings at the Prime Minister's invitation. Speaking to reporters today, National Assembly (NA) of Armenia  Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan said this referring to the fact that the bill, which would allow the NA Speaker to participate in the Security Council sittings, was not adopted in the National Assembly yesterday.

According to him, the problem is not the person himself, but the fact that the NA Speaker should have such power.

Asked why the bill was not passed, Mirzoyan said: “The point is about increasing the role of the National Assembly, in this case, in the person of the National Assembly Speaker, in a parliamentary country. Other factions have previously said that this is a very good initiative. They even demanded more, saying that the initiative should be on behalf of all three factions. We did not make any special efforts to secure the vote. If we wanted to pass the law at any cost, we could have asked our colleagues going on business trips to informing with a letter of their vote in favor."

Ararat Mirzoyan added that the failure of the bill was unexpected for him in the sense that he thought everyone would be in favor of it.
