The Armenian Defense Ministry plans to implement eight programs proceeding from 2020 state budget, chair of Standing Committee on Defense and Security, My Step bloc MP Robert Kocharyan said on Thursday.

According to him, among these programs are proper satisfaction of military needs, improving the working and living conditions of Defense Ministry employees, reimbursement of expenses for the functioning and further operation of airports and related equipment, maintaining structures of military importance, and financing the cost of acquiring new military equipment from Russia.

In accordance with the draft state budget for 2020, defense spending in Armenia will increase significantly.

Thus, defense spending in 2020 will increase by 25.3% compared with the same indicator in 2018. Last year, the country's military spending amounted to $ 609 million.

Defense spending will not exceed 4% of the country's GDP.
