Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, who is presiding the trial over the case of former president of the Union of Volunteer Land Defenders Manvel Grigoryan and Nazik Amiryan in the Yerevan court of general jurisdiction, denied the attorneys’ motion to change Manvel Grigoryan’s preventive measure by releasing him for a pledge of AMD 5,000,000.

Before the trial, Manvel Grigoryan didn’t feel well and didn’t attend the trial. He had shown up in a wheelchair and was escorted by ambulance doctors. He was greeted with rounds of applause in the courtroom.

During the previous trial, the attorneys of the accused-on-trial had filed a motion for the judge’s recusal, but the judge had denied it.

Manvel Grigoryan is charged with keeping illegal weapons and ammunition, appropriating property worth over AMD 101,000,000, avoiding to pay more than AMD 1,000,000,000 in taxes, squandering over AMD 1,000,000,000 and organizing the plunder of property worth AMD 37,000,000 through extortion.

Nazik Amiryan is charged with illegally keeping ammunition and explosive devices in the three homes belonging to her husband and son, Arman Grigoryan and other persons not identified through investigation by acting in conspiracy with them, as well as committing other kinds of plunder.
