The son of former German President Richard von Weizsäcker, who held his post from 1984 to 1994, Fritz von Weizsäcker, 59, died on Tuesday night after a stab wound during a lecture in a Berlin hospital, TASS reported.
The crime was committed in the territory of the Schlosspark-Klinik located in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin, where the victim worked. An unknown man approached and stabbed him while Fritz von Weizsäcker was giving a lecture.
According to police, one of those present tried to intervene, but was injured. Security officers soon arrived at the scene and detained the offender. Information about the motives of his action is not given, an investigation is underway.
