YEREVAN. – Yerevan's Kond neighborhood as well as Firdus and Yekmalyan Streets' residents, who have become victims of eminent domain, are protesting today in front of the Government of Armenia building.

They insist that their letters do not reach their destination. During one of their rallies, Prime Minister assistant Suren Ghambaryan had promised to organize their meeting in the government, but which, according to the residents, has not taken place.

Residents of Kond are demanding to re-measure their homes and issue a new certificate of ownership, while residents of Yekmalyan Street are demanding compensation for their apartments.

Residents of Kond were offered to be move to residential buildings. Residents, however, fear that the size of the apartments they will be allocated will be smaller than their homes. The problem is that during the privatization, their yards were not taken into account, and the area of their houses, according to the residents, is incorrectly written in the documents.

Former residents of Yekmalyan Street have been fighting for 15 years to get compensation for their demolished houses. Three high-rise buildings have been built in the area that was recognized as eminent domain, but no dwellings have been allocated to the area's residents, despite having respective pre-signed contracts. Most of them now live on rent, whereas some others live in Yekmalyan's not-yet-demolished but half-ruined homes without basic public utilities.

Residents of Firdus Street have also fallen victims to the eminent domain and are demanding respective compensation.
