Turkey’s defense minister announced the establishment of 145 kilometers long safe zone in northern Syria, RIA Novosti reported.

“A safety zone has been created with a length of 145 kilometers and a width of 30 kilometers. Attacks from east and west continue in the area of Operation Peace Spring. To prevent them, we are negotiating with our Russian counterparts,” Hulusi Akar said.

On October 17, the US and Turkey, following talks in Ankara, reached an agreement to suspend Turkish operations in northern Syria. Turkey agreed to cease fire for 120 hours so that the Kurdish forces that form part of the Syrian Democratic Forces coalition leave the border security zone created by Ankara.

Several days later Russia and Turkey signed a memorandum containing 10 points, including deployment of Russian military police and Syrian border guardw who will remove all Kurdish units from within 30 km (19 miles) of the Turkish border.
