YEREVAN. – Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Virabyan introduced the newly appointed acting director of the Yerevan Zoo, Vladimir Simonyan, to the zoo staff. Simonyan previously served as deputy director of the zoo.

The deputy mayor recalled that Ruben Khachatryan had submitted his resignation as Director of Yerevan Zoo weeks earlier to the mayor of Yerevan.

"He [Khachatryan] will continue to assist the zoo with his professional experience," Virabyan said. "We are also confident that specialists will help prevent new problems in this transition period." Also, he assured that the Yerevan Zoo will continue to follow the same path.

At the same time, the deputy mayor emphasized that the zoo today has a number of priority issues, which should be resolved next year. In particular, it is about fencing the area and ensuring the security of the zoo. The issue of health insurance for the zoo employees is also on the agenda of the municipality.

Vladimir Simonyan, Acting Director of Yerevan Zoo, said in his turn that he would invest his experience in management in the development of the zoo.

It was also mentioned that zoologist Iman Memarian has been invited from Iran to Armenia, and will soon become the Deputy Director of Yerevan Zoo. He has been the head of the Tehran Zoo for many years.
