Turkish prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 189 people as part of an operation against FETO members, which Ankara accuses of organizing a coup attempt in July 2016.

There are more than one hundred military personnel among the suspects, Huberturk TV channel reported.

Police launched raids simultaneously in 35 provinces of the republic. The warrant lists persons suspected of using ByLock mobile app to encrypt correspondence. This program, as stated in Ankara, was used by FETO supporters to prepare and coordinate actions. So-called internal imams of FETO are among the suspects. These are people involved in the coordination between the recruited military and group cells outside the army, TASS reported.

On July 15, 2016, a group of soldiers and officers of the Turkish Armed Forces attempted a coup. The main confrontation unfolded in Istanbul and Ankara, 250 people were killed, not counting the putschists, more than two thousand were injured. Ankara accuses Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen and the related FETO of preparing the coup.
