Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan is in the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) on a working visit, as reported the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia. During the visit, the delegation led by the Prosecutor General of Armenia was received by President of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of cooperation between the prosecutorial systems of Armenia and Artsakh, the capacity-building of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Artsakh within the scope of the cooperation, the mutual cooperation of law-enforcement authorities in the fight against crimes, as well as the opportunities and prospects for improvement of the mechanisms for legal aid.
Artur Davtyan attended the solemn session organized on the occasion of Prosecutors’ Day of the Republic of Artsakh, and in his congratulatory message addressed to the prosecutors and employees of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Artsakh, he particularly stated that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Artsakh has grown as a system and played a pivotal role in the whole judiciary.
During the visit, the Prosecutor General of Armenia also held a consultation with the prosecutors of the Military Prosecutor’s Office in Stepanakert and discussed a broad range of issues related to the state and trends of criminality within the subdivisions of the armed forces in 2019, the current problems with prosecutorial oversight over the lawfulness of investigations into the cases of recorded crimes and the effectiveness of the fight against corruption in the army.
Within the scope of prosecutorial oversight over the lawfulness of case examinations, the Prosecutor General of Armenia stressed the ensuring of proper protection of the rights of the participants of a trial, as well as exertion of measures of prosecutorial influence for elimination of the causes and conditions for the commission of crimes. Accepting as a basis the results of the consultation, Artur Davtyan gave specific assignments.
