Iraqi security forces shot and killed 28 protesters, Reuters reported referring to the health sources.

At least 24 people died during demonstrations in Nassiriya, when troops opened fire on protesters.

According to health sources, dozens were injured.

Four more people were killed in Baghdad when the Iraqi armed forces fired on protesters near a bridge over the Tigris River.

To stop the unrest, the authorities formed a united military-civilian “crisis-cells,” and the commander of the military units promised to use force to stop any attacks on Shiites.

As reported earlier, the Iraqi authorities are strengthening security measures in the southern provinces of the country after the attack and arson of the Iranian consulate in Najaf, where a curfew was imposed.
