There were no and could not be any preliminary agreements on a bill aimed at early retirement of judges of the Constitutional Court, Armenian Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan told reporters at the Armenian parliament.

According to him, the legislative package presented by the government will allow judges to retire with dignity, and it can in no way be considered as degrading judges, since such regulation is already provided for in the current legislation, and the judges of the Constitutional Court may request early retirement .

When asked what would happen if they decide not to resign voluntarily, Badasyan said: “Well, then they didn’t decide.”

According to him, anti-corruption committee could take advantage of the mechanisms available to it and arrange checks, in particular. For example, this committee can arrange checks on the property of judges of the Constitutional Court.

Asked if this would be evaluated as putting pressure on the judges, Badasyan noted that they did not intend to get rid of anyone in such a way.
