From the political perspective, the attack on Hayeli Press Club and the course of investigation into the criminal case are natural because the authorities are discriminating against media outlets and have adopted the policy of silencing media outlets that are not pleasant for them. This is what head of Media Defender initiative, political scientist Aghasi Yenokyan said during a press conference today.

“Let’s understand that this was not just an attack on Hayeli Press Club. Through this attack, the authorities made an attempt to silence unpleasant media outlets and showed what they are capable of doing. The fact that the perpetrators declare that they committed and will commit such acts, goes to show that this is a specific policy against freedom of media,” he said.

In relation to the attack on Hayeli Press Club, a criminal case is instituted under elements of part 1 of Article 164 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (impeding the lawful professional activities of a journalist).
