Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 04.12.2019:

·       Armenian third president Serzh Sargsyan was charged Wednesday with large-scale embezzlement , SIS reported. 

According to the source, he, holding the position of President of Armenia between April 9, 2008 and April 9, 2018, misused his official position, and in the period between January 25, 2013 and February 7, 2013, organized confiscation of a sum in particularly large amounts (AMD 489,160,310) through squander from the State by a group of persons.

·       In an interview with the Lithuanian Delfi periodical Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda touched upon the issue of Armenian Genocide denial.

Nauseda noted that Armenian Genocide recognition by Turkey is a matter of time and one day it will happen. “Maybe it won’t happen very soon. However, it is difficult to expect this to happen in the next five or ten years. But I think, that as it is a fact, one way or another it will be recognized,” he added.

By the way, after the statement, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Turkey was summoned by Ankara.

According to the Lithuanian MFA, no note was handed out during the meeting.

G. Nauseda told reporters in London that he did not believe that his statement would affect bilateral relations or Turkey’s position on NATO’s defense plans of the Baltic countries and Poland.

·       Azerbaijan distributed Wednesday a document containing its position on the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

The document posted on Twitter account of Azerbaijani embassy in Vienna was distributed at the OSCE ahead of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Bratislava.

“Azerbaijan adheres to the step-by-step approach in the settlement of the conflict, which is premised on the U.N. Security Council resolutions and the OSCE decisions, in particular the Budapest Summit decision of 1994,” the statement said particularly.

·       The arrest of Ara Vardanyan, former Executive director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, has been commuted today, Vardanyan’s lawyer Lusine Sahakyan told to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Executive director who was charged with embezzlement will be released during the day.

·       A young man has died after falling from a building under construction in Yerevan.

Police have received a call from a hospital that they had admitted a young man's dead body with a diagnosis of multiple trauma and clinical death, shamshyan.com reported.

Police and investigators found that the deceased was taken to hospital from the courtyard of an elite building under construction, and he had fallen from the eighth floor while doing construction work.

·       Prosperous Armenia faction member Naira Zohrabyan met with the relatives of Artur Ajamyan, a soldier of Yazidi decent who had sustained a deadly gunshot wound in the Karabakh Defense Army and still under unknown circumstances.

The relatives Wednesday were holding a protest rally today in front of the parliament’s building.

Zohrabyan promised to do her best to reveal the truth.

"It is important to me that the truth be revealed," she said.
