The Court of Appeal considers the complaint of the lawyers of the Armenian second president Robert Kocharyan presided by Judge Mkhitar Papoyan.

The trial began with a petition submitted by the prosecutor Gevorg Baghdasaryan for the recusal of the judge. The prosecutor questioned the objectivity of the judge.

The representative of the injured party, Seda Safaryan, joined the motion and stated that she doubted the objectivity of the judge, since he was a friend of the judge Alexander Azaryan. Mkhitar Papoyan, in turn, informed Safaryan that he was really a friend of Azaryan, which does not mean an identical approach to court cases.

The previous meeting was postponed due to the fact that the package of documents submitted by the trial court was incomplete. Kocharyan’s lawyers will appeal the decision of the judge of the trial court Anna Danibekyan on the refusal to release the ex-president on bail.
