If I am certain that the presidential institution has become well-established in this new parliamentary system of governance and I will be transmitting to the next president an institution that has its traditions and weight, a tradition of working and collaborating with the government and the National Assembly, I will consider this my greatest achievement after leaving office. This is what President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian said during his meeting with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
Armen Sarkissian and Nikol Pashinyan discussed issues related to the country’s current agenda and development programs and attached importance to the regular and already traditional meetings.
In his welcoming remarks, Armen Sarkissian said the following: “Mr. Prime Minister, it is a pleasure to meet you again after our visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial this morning. I am glad that we are meeting again, and I will be happy to discuss all the possible issues and problems that are essential for our country and people.”
In his turn, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed gratitude for the meeting and said the following: “We hold regular meetings. Over the past months, you and I have been rather busy, and it is very important for us to share the results of our work with each other. Yes, today we paid tribute to the victims of all genocides on the occasion of the international day of commemoration of the victims of genocides and prevention of the crime and talked about the fact that, for us Armenians, international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not just acknowledgement of the historical fact and justice, but also our major contribution to the prevention of genocides around the world. Of course, in the past, we have stated that we view international recognition of the Armenian Genocide as a key component of Armenia and the Armenian people. The year is drawing to an end, and it is very important for us to start recapping the results we have achieved this year. About three days ago, the National Assembly adopted the law on the 2020 State Budget, and I stated the fact that we are ending the year with rather good economic indicators, which is important for us to start the new year with more confidence.”
The President shared the Prime Minister’s view that everyone’s harmonious efforts are one of the key factors for the stability, development and security of the country.
“The year is drawing to an end, and we need to sum up the successes and hardships, or perhaps the mistakes, and plan for the next year. It is very important for the next year to be a year of success. It will be a very important year. It will be a year during which the cooperation of our state institutions will grow deeper, and we will achieve more success and look towards the future with more confidence,” the President said.
