YEREVAN. – On December 26, the intergovernmental commission is expected to discuss the use of a $70 million loan from Russia. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin said this at a December 10 press conference.

The project of extending the life of the second unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is related to the restoration of the resource and the extension of the plant’s operation to up to 10 years, as well as the increase of the level of security and efficiency. The Russian government has provided Armenia with a $270 million state export loan and a $30 million grant for this purpose. The $200 million has already been used.

Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan, and Russian Ambassador Kopirkin visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant on December 10, and got acquainted with the modernization works of the 2nd power unit in 2019.
