Democratic congressmen, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, head of the Legal Committee of the House of Representatives, Jerry Nadler, and head of the Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff, have charged the president with two counts - abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, Voice of America reported.

Jerrold Nadler said the president’s actions damaged national security and jeopardized the integrity of the upcoming presidential election. Nadler added that, unlike President Trump, lawmakers are primarily concerned with strict compliance with the Constitution.

Adam Schiff, who then spoke, noted that violating the Constitution betrays public confidence. He noted the need to act immediately to prevent foreign interference in the 2020 elections.

Asked to comment whether there would be enough votes to represent the president for impeachment, Pelosi said that House members should vote, listening to their conscience.
