Russia and the US reaffirmed their common position that there is no military solution to the Syrian conflict, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

First of all, Lavrov continued, the involvement of the Kurds should go through the establishment of contacts with the central government in Damascus. According to the Russian FM, the Russian side is talking about this with the Kurds, showing that this is the only reliable way to ensure the interests of both Kurdish and other ethnic and religious groups in Syria.

Idlib has become a hotbed of terrorism, and Turkey, despite its obligations, cannot yet separate the opposition operating there from terrorist groups, Lavrov added.

Pompeo is interested in achieving results in the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, said the Russian FM. 

“Today I heard the Secretary of State’s interest in achieving results in the work on constitutional reform, which is stipulated by a resolution of the UN Security Council,” Lavrov noted.
