On December 11, the National Assembly of Armenia debated with a speedy procedure and voted, in the second and final reading, on a package of bills on amendments to the law on the Constitutional Court and related laws, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports from parliament.

A total of 75 deputies voted in favor of the government's legislative initiative, whereas 34—against. MPs from the opposition Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia factions voted against.

According to this legislative package, if the serving judges of the Constitutional Court agree to retire early, they will continue to receive their salaries until the end of their term of office.

Overall, the early retired judges are expected to be paid 630 million drams, which has enraged the Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia lawmakers and sparked public debates.
