The Greek authorities expect about 100 thousand new refugees to arrive from Turkey in 2020.  Greece has received 45,000 new migrants over the past six months, said local government plenipotentiary for refugees Manos Logothetis.

The official also said that Athens plans to send about 10,000 asylum seekers to Turkey in 2020, DW reported. Logothetis said the crisis was significantly more serious for Greece than the crisis of 2015. Then almost all refugees moved to other EU member sates, but this time they remained on the Greek islands.

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis recently, giving an interview to Bild am Sonntag, called on Germany to accept more refugees amid the aggravated situation on the Lesbos island.  Despite the tense situation, Germany this year sent significantly fewer officials to help the Greek authorities. The government in Berlin sent a total of 80 experts to the Greek islands to assist with refugee registration.
