I will do whatever I can to fight for the release of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan since nobody has the right to be a passive observer. This is what head of the Democracy faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) Vardges Baghryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Touching upon the creation of a committee for the release of Robert Kocharyan, he said the following: “I can’t speak on behalf of all citizens of Artsakh, but many accept the idea of setting up the committee, and I am one of those people who signed under the paper to change the preventive measure for Robert Kocharyan,” Baghryan said.

Baghryan said Robert Kocharyan is not only being politically persecuted, but is also a hostage and stressed that there is a need to show political will and have a political stance.

He shares the view of the committee’s head Aghvan Vardanyan that keeping Robert Kocharyan in prison is dishonorable, isn’t in the interests of Armenia, undermines the judiciary and doesn’t allow the government to focus on the real agendas.

“I see more dangers in regard to the issue of Artsakh. It’s not only about Robert Kocharyan. We know the attitude towards all the boys and men who scored victories,” he said.
