The United States is turning space into a "battlefield," said Chinese MFA spokesperson Geng Shuang, commenting on Washington’s decision to create a Space Force.

"These actions from the US strongly violate the international consensus of the peaceful use of outer space.... posing a direct threat to outer space, peace, and security," AFP reported referring to him. 

He called on the international community to take a prudent and responsible position so that space does not become a new battlefield.

China has been investing in space for the last years and is investing billions in its military space program, hoping that a space station with a crew will be launched by 2022. In November, he completed the testing of his research ship on Mars ahead of Beijing's first mission to the red planet, scheduled for 2020.
