Unlike the population, the Government of Armenia hasn’t made a clear decision on exploitation of the Amulsar gold mine. This is what environmentalist and ornithologist Silva Adamyan declared during a press conference today.

According to her, the situation in Jermuk is tense since the residents don’t want the mine to be exploited due to radiation and the existence of uranium in the area near the mine.

“Unlike the population, the Government of Armenia hasn’t made a clear-cut decision on the exploitation of the Amulsar gold mine and will be dealing with the issue in 2020,” Adamyan noted, adding that she is certain that there are essential problems with the entire complex of the mining industry in Armenia and that the government, industrial enterprises and inspection bodies need to raise the issues and demand solutions.
