The indictment of the President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan is an unprecedented case, said the leader of the opposition Yerkir Tsirani party of Armenia, Zaruhi Postanjyan.

According to her, the CC chair was attacked because he opposed the wishes of the authorities and refused to fulfill their whims, in particular in the case of Armenian second president Robert Kocharyan. “If the current authorities imagine the CC work, it turns out that the power in our country has been usurped once again, and no changes have occurred in this regard,” she said.

She noted that current constitution was adopted under the previous authorities by falsifying the results of the referendum. At the same time, the politician noted that Hrayr Tovmasyan cannot be held responsible for all the violations that were committed by the previous authorities, she said adding that the authorities are trying to put pressure on the court and resort to various methods, such as blocking court buildings, intimidating relatives of dissidents, calling members of the court to the Special Investigation Service, etc.

These actions, according to Postanjyan, are illegal and should be condemned.  “The system must change, and that is a fact,” she said.
